The second annual meeting of the eastern Mediterranean Region at EWB was held in Larnaca at the Palm Beach Hotel and Bungalows from March 3 to March 6 2010. Organized by Engineers Without Borders  International  under the title “Sustainable Engineering in the Eastern Mediterranean”, the workshop was a good gathering for regional partners and humanitarian work representatives.

EWB-Lebanon participated with other EWB groups and NGOs from the region, the USA, and Nepal. Nader Hajj Shehadeh, the acting president of EWB-Lebanon, introduced the group and discussed with the participants the future plans in an interactive presentation (Download Presentation).

The aims of the workshop were the following:

  • To update one another on community development projects and initiatives discussed/initiated at the 2009 meeting in Larnaca, Cyprus (http://ewb‐international.org/larnaca09.htm)
  • To learn from existing initiatives in the region, build on those initiatives, and create new initiatives
  • To experience through discussion and hands‐on workshops replicable projects and technologies
  • To continue to strengthen and build upon the collaboration between network members though joint projects and information sharing
